Deep tissue massage focuses on the deep layers of muscle and connective tissue. It releases chronic patterns of muscular tension using slow strokes, direct pressure and friction directed across the grain of the muscles.
It is applied slower and with greater pressure and treats deeper layers of tissue than Swedish massage. It is generally concentrated on areas where the patient is experiencing tension or pain.
